Stripped Down hits double figures in style with a new EP from Berlin based Portuguese talent Jepe which includes a remix from Ede.
It was in 1997 that Jepe secured his first DJ residency, at Estação da Luz, and he soon progressed to booking for the club. After working with the biggest names in the scene he started making his own music and since has released on high class labels like Moodmusic, Connaisseur and Engrave, as well as doing A&R for Blossom Kollektiv. This elegant artist now comes correct across a trio of fresh originals.
This fantastic journey opens with the cosmic keys and skyward chords of ‘Last Train to London’, which is melodically lush and superbly entrancing. ‘Acola’ is another majestically musical track with poised synths that float above the rooted, rolling drums and lifts you ever higher.
Turkish born Ede has landed on Innervisions, TAU and Correspondant after making his mark on the Berlin club scene and now does so again here. He remixes with a soft acid line spraying about beneath the twirling keys to make for something more dark and driving for late nights in the club.
‘Alem’ is the excellent closer with a sombre lead synth that triggers deep inward thoughts while the crisp drums lift you to the heavens.
This is an adventurous EP of sublime melodic electronic sounds.
