Stripped Down label boss Claudio Ricci returns to his own label with a fresh new single that comes with superb remixes from Uner, Brigado Crew and Makossa & Megablast. Claudio Ricci is a veteran of the scene who was born in Vienna but is based in Ibiza. He has a weekly radio show on Ibiza Global Radio and takes cues from all styles of house music. He mixes organic sounds with proper melodies to enthralling effect and after EPs on the likes of MoBlack, Compost and Sudam, serves up his best work on his own ever more vital label. His original here is ‘Yano’, a perfectly paced track with loose, jumbled percussion. Dark, broad and sweeping chords bring tension and menace to the grooves, but a soulful vocal cry off in the distance means it also has real heart. A tribal track that is designed to unite the floor, it’s a perfect later summer anthem in the making. Spanish titan Uner has long been a big name with music coming on Diynamic, Visionquest and Cocoon, a DJ set that is full of skill, twists and turns and special FX and a tour diary that takes him round the world. His remix is a melodic one that reaches for the heavens. It will lift up spirits with its neon chords and spritely lead lines and has glassy percussion adding real musicality to this most sensuous groove. Suruba and Diynamic artists Brigado Crew have already hit the Top 10 of the Beatport charts and bring real flair to the EP. Their remix is slow burning but intense, with sweeping synths taking you higher, and supple, rubbery drum lines then carrying you away into the night as heart arching vocal samples add another dimension. Closing things down is a remix from Makossa & Megablast, who have worked together since 2004, count Carl Craig, Gilles Peterson and Laurent Garnier as fans, are hugely prolific on the likes of DeeJay Gigolo, Compost, Man Recordings and Great Stuff, and have put out more than a few big anthems in their time. Here they get playful, with nimble synths, chunky drums and a busy percussive groove that is the sort of house tune that makes perfect sense on a warm Ibiza dance floor. This excellent EP offers various house styles that will connect with a wide range of audiences. |
